  Gym Instructor Award - Central YMCA Qualification  

Our Gym Instructor Award is considered the ‘gold standard’ within the industry and is an excellent foundation for those wishing to work in a gym or begin their career as a Personal Trainer.

This course will provide you with all the skills and knowledge you need to teach clients on a broad range of cardiovascular machines, fixed resistance machines and free weights on either a one-to-one basis or in small groups. A motivating and enthusiastic personality is essential for this course.

You can study in a variety of ways depending on your preferred learning style.  We offer the course with a Tutor or our home study option.  The home study pack enables you to study the exercise anatomy and physiology at home prior to attending our 6 day practical module.  The first day of the module is an optional theory revision day.

Course Content - Gym Instructor Award

Option 1 - 12 day course plus 1 day assessment

Option 2 - Home Study and 6 day module plus 1 day assessment (first day of the module includes an optional revision day)

An excellent foundation to start your career within the fitness industry.This course can be delivered via theory and practical workshops and enables you to induct, plan, supervise and monitor clients within a gym.

The course covers:

• Components of physical fitness
• Anatomy and physiology related to fitness
• Principles of safe and effective exercise
• Approaches to aerobic training
• Approaches to resistance training
• Practical Teaching and Motivational Techniques
• Gym inductions
• Introduction to First Aid
• Health and Safety
• Customer Care

The Assessment for this course consists of:

• Practical assessment within a gym environment (plan, teach and evaluate)
• Multiple choice theory paper (NVQ 2)
• Completion of worksheets

Prerequisites for this course:
You must be:

• Over 16
• Currently attending a gym for a minimum of 6 months
• Moderately fit
• Committed to studying and attending all the course
• Committed to undertake home study and assignments

Additional Information

If you choose to undertake the Home Study option please allow yourself 8 weeks to complete prior to attending the course.

Successful completion leads to CYQ Certificate in Fitness Instructor Level 2 ‘Gym’
