Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: I want to be a personal trainer, how do I get qualified? A: We run the Central YMCA Qualifications Certificate in Personal Training, which is the most respected and widely accepted qualification in the UK. Our Certificate in Personal Training starts with the Gym Instructor Award and then you take one module a month until you complete the 5 modules. Our Personal Trainer certificate will give you all the knowledge and practical skills you need to become a successful Personal Trainer.
Q: I want to be an aerobics instructor but have two small children, how can I fit it in with family life? A: Our courses are run in a wide variety of formats and our weekend course would be ideal for you. Attending two days per week would give you time to undertake your studies and look after your family. We also offer a Home Study Option which means you can study the theoretical aspects of the course prior to attending the practical module.
Q: How fit do I have to be to attend a course? A: Our courses are designed for all levels of fitness and as long as you already attend classes and have a moderate level of fitness you will be fine. Most people worry about this but on our courses you will be spending time learning how to design and plan exercise sessions and will not be 'jumping around' all the time.
Q: Will I need to buy any expensive textbooks? A: No, all the training material has been written specifically for each course/module and will be given to you on the first day of your course. There are no other books to buy.
Q: I have just finished my Degree and want to work in a Gym. How quickly can I get qualified? A: We offer intensive and semi-intensive formats for students who wish to gain their qualification quickly. These usually take place during the Easter and Summer breaks.
Q: Am I too old to become a fitness instructor? A: Absolutely not – there are no age barriers on our courses and we accept students from 16 to 70! We have a lot of young people who are looking for a career in fitness, we have people in their 20s and 30s who want a change of career and we have mature students who wish to change their love of fitness into a career. Remember health clubs and fitness clubs have classes and gym sessions for all ages and the industry needs instructors to cater for their needs.

They are trained to support, motivate and encourage you throughout your training. You will also have the opportunity to have one-to-one discussions with your tutor about your progress. You can also call our tutor helpline or email us your questions. Remember all our staff are there to ensure you get the most from your course and gain the success and qualifications you deserve.
