  Exercise Referral  

(6 day module - assessment on last day)

Our nation's health is a huge topic for debate. with the Department of Health totally supporting GP referral schemes, this opens up the prospect for Personal Trainers and Advanced Fitness instructors to get involved in working with GPs and patients to improve their functional capacity and daily lives.

This module looks at medical conditions including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, respiratory diseases, cancer, diabetes, joint diseases, obesity, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease. It also covers practical programme planning and teaching skills for a wide variety of clients. It also addresses how to adapt exercises and teach these special populations.  Students applying for this module must have at least 6 months teaching experience.

Prerequisites for this course:

  • Provide evidence of undertaking NVQ Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instuctor
  • Students must have at least 6 months teaching experience
  • Provide evidence of current CPR/First Aid at Work Certification

The Assessment for this course consists of:

  • Practical assessment (plan, teach and evaluate)
  • Theory paper
  • Case Study and Viva

Successful completion leads to a Certificate in Exercise Referral for Clients with Specific Controlled Conditions

Register of Exercise Professionals - 20 CPD credits
